Join us at the opening reception for Mixed Blood Manifesto: an exhibition of paintings and artwork I completed over the pandemic. This project explores the topic of mixed-race identity through a series of portraits, interviews, type-based works, a zine, a playlist, and more.
In an increasingly polarized society, what insights might people who are living, breathing bridges between cultural groups provide? What can individuals of mixed-race descent teach us about monoculture, the shortcomings of identity politics, and our own individual identities? And can engaging with existing media – music, film, writing – through a new lens give us a new perspective on concepts we take for granted?
The goal of this show is to challenge our ever-narrowing perspectives all along the political spectrum and our calcifying views about what’s important about identity.

Opening reception: Thursday, November 10, 6-10pm
Northern Contemporary, 420 Roncesvalles Ave.
I’m so happy to finally be able to exhibit this work and welcome everyone (to a physical space!) to engage with this project! This work reflects a lot of the ideas I’ve felt have only grown in importance over the last 6 years or so – ideas about what we emphasize, what we value, and what we fight for; both from places of good intent and ignorance. A lot of what I’m exploring or trying to express reflects my own feelings in a more direct way than I’m used to with my artwork. My hope is that some of the work or discussions here prompt you to dip your toes into the uncomfortable, nebulous grey and stray from the black and white we’ve all become increasingly married to.
